IT seems that the powers that be just cannot wait to steer us into winter.

Once again, Kirklees Council has proved to be ahead of the game – by ending British Summer Time a full week early.

They have programmed clocks across Huddersfield, including those on the railway station and the imposing Lindley Clock Tower, to shift back an hour.

Unfortunately, they again chose the wrong date as it should be next Sunday.

And while many may smile at the untimely gaffe, others will resurrect the argument about whether or not the clocks should be changed at all.

There have been various attempts to end the practice in recent years and campaign groups both for and against the change.

But at least in Huddersfield we can smile about the clocks – and look forward to an extra hour in bed next Sunday.
