SELL-OFF plans for a treasured rural beauty spot have been shelved.

Charity officials have given assurances that the popular Cliff Quarry recreation area will not be sold.

The Holme Valley (Graveship of Holme) Land Charity, which is run by a small group of Holme Valley parish councillors, owns plots of land across the area says it will sell many of them to raise cash for community projects.

Thousands of pounds have already been raised by the charity by selling some of the abandoned quarries at auction in December 2009.

But following a public outcry over the sale of a popular walking spot at Swindon Knowle, near Honley, worried nature lovers feared other well used recreation sites – including Cliff Quarry, at Wooldale – could be disposed of.
