TATTOOS are becoming more popular now than ever before. A body art form which was once a rarity is a hit with men and women of all ages.

In the UK, the law says you can tattoo yourself, but tattooing others must be done in licensed premises. And both tattooist and the person receiving it must also be over the age of 18.

Bizarrely, people are attempting to tattoo themselves with kits they have bought online.

Health chiefs are now highlighting the problems in a bid to halt the rise in amateur tattooing.

It seems young people who want a tattoo, but are rightly refused by fully licensed operators are turning to the kits – or illegal operators – in a bid to have a tattoo before they turn 18.

It’s wrong on many counts. One Huddersfield tattooist says he’s seen examples of people ripping their skin away in a bid for cheap body art. And once it’s done it’s near impossible to fix.

There are many reasons for an age restriction, a 14-year-old does not have the maturity to decide they want this permanent art form for life. And they’ll have even less skill to do it themselves.

These kits must be banned immediately.
