ONCE again another Huddersfield road has come under the spotlight after a serious accident.

This time it is Meltham Road – especially the stretch between Lockwood and Netherton.

Concerns have been raised after teenager Ben Armitage was left with serious head injuries after his Citroen Saxo crashed on a bend in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Thankfully the 18-year-old is recovering slowly from his injuries at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The road has been the scene of several bad crashes in recent years.

It is too early to know what happened in Ben’s case.

But residents along that stretch of the road are, quite rightly, asking why there are no traffic-calming measures on it.

After all, there is extensive traffic-calming on roads such as Cowrakes Road, West Street and East Street in Lindley – and that road did not have a history of serious and fatal accidents.
