CLOSURE of village shops can be a killer blow for a community.

So it is good news to hear that with the backing of the Deighton and Brackenhall Initiative, a popular former business in Sheepridge is due to reopen.

The DBI, which since its formation 14 years ago has helped pump millions into the area, has bought the old bakery which closed last summer after a fire.

The premises were to have been auctioned but the DBI stepped in. A sandwich shop will soon serve the community once again and provide local jobs.

As regeneration projects go this one, with an attached house which will be let, has all the right ingredients for success.
