SOME things never change do they?
There was a whiff of inevitability about the weekend’s broadcasting gaffe when two experienced broadcasters were heard making sexist comments.
The fact that their sexist remarks about women in football were off air doesn’t excuse their behaviour, in fact it underlines the depth of the problem.
The concern is that former footballer Andy Gray and commentator Richard Keys, who together have been fronting football programmes for Sky for almost two decades, clearly have a low opinion of women in football.
It is particularly disappointing since these two are high profile presenters on Sky Sports and are in a key position to support and promote the best in women’s sport. And there is a lot to praise.
At a time when much is being done to promote women’s sport and to get more women out enjoying all manner of sports and officiating in them, it is frustrating to see that the faces of football are set against female involvement in the game.
Full marks to Sky Sports for taking disciplinary action against the pair and perhaps a series about the excellence in women’s sports might be their next project.
