THE smile of battling baby Ruddi Waterworth-Jones says it all.

Fate dealt him a cruel blow when doctors diagnosed cancer just after he was six months old.

Since then, his young life has been spent almost exclusively in St James’ Hospital in Leeds.

Ruddi is brave even though he doesn’t know the meaning of the word.

But spare more than a thought for his courageous family, especially mum, Ali, who must be bearing the brunt of the endless worry and hospital stay.

Ali and Ruddi’s dad, Craig, are thinking of others during their own personal nightmare and they – along with a wonderful support network of family and friends – have set up a trust fund to raise cash for the hospital and charity.

It just shows that trauma sometimes highlights the best in human nature.

It is vital that Ali and Craig – along with other family members – get support from their wider circle of friends.

Nothing can match that emotional help along with the chance to give them some respite from the pressure of constant hospital care.

The wider Huddersfield community can also show its support by attending the fundraising events set up by this truly remarkable family.

So, in some ways Ruddi is a very lucky baby!
