Dancer and actor Andrew, 33, died suddenly at the family home in Waterloo he shared with his parents, Ray and Lesley, several years ago.

Andrew had epilepsy but the cause of his death was unknown.

Afterwards his friends and loved ones set up The Andrew Spencer Memorial Trust and during one of the recent Trust meetings it was decided it would be good to donate a defibrillator – a life-saving machine that gives the heart an electric shock in some cases of cardiac arrest – to the community.

Purple Dog training Ltd had just recently completed Almondbury hairdressers Fabrik’s First Aid training and during it the salon owner Brett Oddy said how beneficial it would be to be able to have a community defibrillator.

He also expressed an interest in completing the defibrillator training course. Sarah Boothroyd, Andrew Spencer’s former dancing partner, had a chat with Helen and Steve from Purple Dog and mentioned the topics.

She said: “I took the information to the Trust and it was agreed that The Andrew Spencer Memorial Trust would donate the defibrillator and Purple Dog Training Ltd would donate the training to benefit the residents and community of Almondbury. Helen has her hair done by Brett so that’s how that connection came about.

“Apparently it costs £750 or so to buy a defibrillator and it would be very good to have one for use in the community.

“Hopefully, it won’t have to be used but if anyone does start need the use of one in an emergency then it will be there.”
