A CHURCH was filled with colourful quilts to raise money for charity.

Lindley Methodist Church was taken over by Imperial Quilters for their biannual Quilt Show.

Group members displayed quilts, wall hangings, bags, pincushions, table runners and other quilted items.

Visitors to the two-day event could vote for their favourite Challenge Quilt.

All members of the group were given five pieces of fabric to make a quilt based on the theme “China or china”. Designs included Chinese dragons, lucky cats and cups and saucers. The winner was Jackie Ledger with her Chinese lanterns.

A donation from a past member, who is now suffering from Alzheimer’s, of a part made quilt was completed by Jackie Ledger and hand quilted by Karen Mulleague.

The group asked for donations to the Huddersfield branch of the Alzheimer’s Society for an opportunity to enter into a draw to take the quilt home. Sally Ward was the lucky recipient and the quilt raised £280. Members also sold mystery bags for a £1 each. Refreshments were served in the church hall.

All other proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to Multiple Sclerosis, Salvation Army, Breast Cancer Research and Autism UK.

Imperial Quilters meet monthly at the church on the second Monday 7.30pm to 9.30pm for sit and sew. They have regular Saturday workshops and own sewing days. New members are always welcome. Contact via Facebook on imperialquiltershuddersfieldUK or on 01924 496676.
