VISITORS to a Linthwaite church should no longer have any trouble finding the place.

Linthwaite Methodist Church has commissioned a new signage stone to point the way.

The stone, which weighs almost a ton, has been inscribed simply: Linthwaite Methodist Church.

Supplied by Johnson Wellfield Quarries of Crosland Moor, it has been sited at the entrance to the church car park.

It is visible to all driving or walking up Stones Lane in Linthwaite.

Minister at the church, the Rev Jo Archer-Siddall, said: “Although we have signage on both sides of the church building, many people new to the area have had difficulty finding us.

“Our beautiful new stone lets them know exactly where we are.

“We have been trying for some time to find a way to make the church easier to locate and the new stone fits the bill exactly.”

The new sign is made from a single slab of Yorkshire stone with the legend on the sawn face.

Linthwaite Methodist Church is also home to Linthwaite’s beaver, cub, scout, and explorer groups, Jellies, the out-of-school and holiday club, the Rosemary Conley Diet and Fitness Club and zumba classes.

The newly-formed over 70s Lunch Club meets every other Thursday.

Regular theatre rehearsals are also held at the church along with the acclaimed Haydn Wood Musical Festival in November.
