A Lord is encouraging young people to get involved in the politics.

Lord Shutt of Greetland visited Hipperholme Grammar School’s Sixth Form.

A member of the House of Lords, Lord Shutt was invited to the school as part of the Lord Speaker’s Peers in Schools Outreach programme to encourage students to engage more with the political and parliamentary process.

Lord Shutt gave a presentation to the students about the structure, work and role of the House of Lords as well as his own experiences as a member of the Lords. This was followed by a question and answer session on various aspects of the parliamentary process and life at Westminster in general.

Mrs Wilson, Head of Sixth Form at Hipperholme Grammar School said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.”

The Lord Speaker’s Peers in Schools programme has been running across the UK since 2007involving around 50,000 young people.
