Lowerhouses Community Bowling Club is celebrating the news that it has received a £2,000 funding boost from SITA Trust for their project to improve the Bowling Green Surrounds.

The work will involve installing a 200mm deep white PVC board fixed to a timber backing.

The existing pathway will then be concreted up to the back of the PVC board.

The old surround is in a dilapidated state and could be potentially dangerous.

Peter Hirst, the club treasurer, is delighted to be receiving the Funding from SITA Trust.

He said: “This will enable the above works to go ahead.

“The project will make a huge difference to the appearance and safety of the green.

“The work is scheduled to go ahead early January with completion within three to four weeks, so that all will be ready for the new bowling season.”

Marek Gordon, chairman of SITA Trust said: “We are delighted to have been able to support this project through the Landfill Communities Fund.

“This important source of funding has been available since 1997 and has provided such worthy projects with more than £1.2 billion.”
