A MARTIAL arts club has raised around £1,000 for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice which helps children with life-limiting conditions.

Rebecca Kane, world martial arts champion, of the Kane Academy in Lockwood, says that “is massive for a small club of around 50 members”.

The money was raised through a variety of events including a Halloween party, discos and dances.

Rebecca also raised £100 through dancing a series of Irish jigs at a wedding.

And when she received her Olympic torch – after being honoured last year to run with it through Huddersfield – she went into over 30 schools with it.

Two of them, Birkby Junior school and Woodhouse Primary in Brighouse, contributed to the hospice as a direct result of her visits.

Rebecca, 27, said: “The tour around the Forget Me Not Hospice really reminded me of Kane Academy’s core values, one being family, two being community.

“Literally everything has been thought of at Forget Me Not in order to provide the best personal care to children and their families through all stages of illness and to bereavement. I was amazed by all the little details and the amount of thought that has gone into it.”
