Hopes for the future featured in a special project at a Rastrick school.

Rastrick High School welcomed year six pupils who will move to the high school in September for a transition day.

And the ‘hopes and ambitions’ theme got the young pupils to think about their futures.

Emma Dyson, Assistant Headteacher at Rastrick High School, said: “We are so pleased with the whole transition day.

“The students really enjoyed getting to know the school, and of course each other, and by focusing on their hopes and ambitions for high school and the future, we hope that they will be motivated to begin with us in September.

“We can’t wait to see how far the balloons go, but also to watch the students work towards their hopes and ambitions.”

Lessons were tailored around the topic – in English, students looked at how their hopes and ambitions could be achieved and how they could use creative writing to motivate each other.

In Design and Technology it was time to get creative and design a mug, based on the career they hoped they would eventually have. Geography lessons also focused on the largest map of the UK in the country and students completed tasks on how Rastrick linked in with the wider county and country.

The young pupils could get to know their peers and team building activities in Art and Drama which encouraged new friendships ready for the new start in September.

Parents and families were invited to join the children for a mass release of over 240 balloons.

Over the summer, staff will create a giant map and plot where balloons land as those who find them report back and the Rastrick team hope the first day at big school might not be as scary as they thought as the children will be eager to find out whose balloon travelled the furthest.
