Children at Meltham CE School have been busy making art to display during the Tour de France.

Pupils have taken part in willow workshops with artist Carole Beavis.

Their work will form part of the ‘Hypervelocity’ sculpture which will be exhibited in Huddersfield town centre on July 5 and 6, the weekend of the tour.

The children also designed flags with artist Helen Davies.

They will be displayed on seven-metre poles at Holme Moss during the race.

Headteacher Alex Beaumont said: “It’s been wonderful to see such bustling creativity taking place in the school in preparation for such a momentous event that will hit our local area in July.

“The willow sculpture will be a superb addition to our school grounds after the event as we have just had a Lottery-funded project with support from Meltham Town Council and the school parent and staff association to build a cycle track in the school grounds.”

The track will be opened up to groups and other schools at a date to be confirmed.
