Moldgreen Liberal Club is on the up!

After a difficult couple of years the club has a new steward – Moldgreen lad, Steve Hunter, a former relief manager and qualified chef, who at one time ran Jacobs Well, Honley.

Secretary Gary Ewart, 56, who is Moldgreen, born-and-bred, said: “The club has seen a turnaround, that’s the only way I can describe it. We have definitely turned a corner.

“We are thriving, more people are coming in and membership is on the increase following some financial difficulties.

“Steve is a grand lad and is doing a fine job. We are trying to get more higher quality acts on, particularly on a Sunday afternoon.

“For example on Sunday, March 8, we have the comedy duo Sharp Experience who are absolutely hilarious and on Saturday night, March 21, the top reggae band Jamaica.

“We will be holding some more charity nights throughout the year, the next one will be in aid of Barnardo’s, the leading children’s charity.

Gary, who owns his own business, joined the club in March 2013 and in January 2014 the committee asked him if he would be secretary which he agreed to do.

On Saturday, January 10, a race night was held at the club, which is situated on Old Wakefield Road, in aid of Kirkwood Hospice for which a magnificent £300 was raised.
