DRIVERS suffered a severe case of Monday morning blues yesterday morning.

Motorists got caught up in traffic jams on a number of roads around Huddersfield and the M62.

In one of the slowest Monday mornings for some time, slow or stationary traffic was reported in both directions on the A62 Cooper Bridge Road, Mirfield, and the A62 Manchester Road near Chapel Hill.

Drivers also experienced severe delays following an accident on the westbound M62 between Junctions 28 (Tingley) to 27 (Gildersome).

Heavier than usual traffic was reported on the M62 eastbound between Junction 23 (Ainley Top) to (Gildersome) where travel time was 35 minutes.

Later in the morning, there was also a crash near Chain Bar.

Two car drivers escaped injury when their cars collided on the westbound carriageway at 10.45am, but police had to close the first and second lanes until the vehicles were moved to Hartshead services.

Queues stretched back to Junction 27 at Gildersome.

The commute wasn’t much better later on either.

Three lorries were in collision at about 3pm eastbound between junctions 26 and 27, Chain Bar and Gildersome.

A load of white powder, thought to be table salt, was shed and one lane had to be closed for the clean-up.

One driver suffered minor injuries and shock.
