Members of an Islamic movement from across the globe met at a special event in Huddersfield.

Several people came together to meet an Indian member Janab Peer Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Burraqui at the Minhaj- Ul-Quran mosque in Thornton Lodge as part of a commemorative service for deceased loved ones.

Mr Burraqui blessed the Mehfil ceremony, which is a small gathering where classical Indian and Pakistani music, poetry and dance are performed and prayed for one of the member’s deceased brothers in law, Mohammed Yousef, as well as other late relatives.

At the event Muhammed Hasan Ahmad Hafeez also took part in a bayt with the blessing from several scholars and money was raised to fund the Indian Urs Mubarak festival, which is celebrated each year.

A representative from the mosque said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people for taking time out to attend and to give donations for the Indian Urs Mubarak.”

Minhaj-ul-Quran International began in Pakistan as an attempt to revive Islam for those living in foreign countries, such as the UK.
