WHAT Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross did was not big and it was not clever.

Their prank calls to former Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs were puerile and over-stepped the bounds of decency.

But do the pair’s actions really deserve such a political hurricane?

The broadcast on BBC Radio 2 was made on October 18, but it was not until a week later that the media burst into life with the story.

Since then it has snowballed and more than 10,000 complaints have been registered. Far more people have now heard the “jokes” than did at the time of transmission.

Humanitarian disasters in places like the Congo go uncommented, yet politicians like Gordon Brown and David Cameron have been unable to resist having their say on Brand and Ross.

Anyone would think it is the worst thing to happen in years.

Hasn’t it been blown out of all proportion?
