Kirkheaton well featured in book
A NEW book detailing the history of the Diocese of Wakefield – with several mentions of Kirkheaton – is being published to mark the diocese’s 125th anniversary next year.
Wakefield Diocese: Celebrating 125 Years has been written by Kate Taylor, a lay canon at Wakefield Cathedral, spent four years researching the book which examines the diocese from its planning stages in the 1870s and its creation in 1888 to the present day.
Kate, a former Wakefield Girls High School pupil and Oxford graduate charts the changing role and status of women in the church, the involvement of lay people in the church.
Also included are the great diocesan celebrations such as the mammoth centenary service at Huddersfield Town’s football ground in 1988.
The book was commissioned by the Bishop of Wakefield, Stephen Platten.
This serious work of history has an RRP of £12.99, is available from the Cathedral shop or Church House at the special prize of £10. Phone: 01924 371802.
