A new community hub could rise from the ashes of the arson-hit Bradley pavilion.

The move comes after the changing rooms on Bradley Park were destroyed during an arson attack in the summer.

A proposal has now been put forward to create a new purpose-built community hub for Bradley.

And it was already being discussed at a special meeting led by Bradley Tenants and Residents Association last night.

Residents, councillors and community leaders are now backing plans for a new facility at Bradley Park - known locally as Bradley Rec.

Bradley TRA Secretary Jackie Wilkins, said ahead of the meeting: “The pavilion at the playing fields was destroyed during an arson attack and is now creating an eyesore on the playing fields.

“We have needed a community centre for Bradley for many years and now this is an opportunity to build a new facility which can really benefit local people.

“It is still in the early stages but we need as much support from local people as possible.

“Funds are in the pipeline but we need to show the community is behind us.”

Bradley TRA also wants people to get in touch to have their say about which facilities they would like to see included in the new centre.

The move comes after the changing rooms on Bradley Park were completely gutted during the arson attack in the summer.

The mindless act caused a strong reaction from the community who feared the facility - although out-dated- would have an impact on local sports teams.

Local resident James Brook said at the time: “Such a shame. That building had been there forever.

“Even though they looked terrible it’s been a part of the history of Bradley and the people who have grown up here.”

Kirklees Council said at the time that they were investigating the incident and working with police.

Anyone with information regarding the arson investigation should call Huddersfield CID on 101.
