HUDDERSFIELD may soon get a new school with two others undergoing major facelifts.

Kirklees Council has revealed it is set to apply for funding under the controversial Private Finance Initiative to get enough money to build a new primary school on the Moor End Academy site at Crosland Moor.

The population is booming so much in that catchment area it is estimated Kirklees will need to provide for up to 90 more children per year there over the next five years.

It also wants investment to expand Mount Pleasant School in Lockwood so it can take a further 140 pupils and carry out major improvement work at All Saints Catholic College in Bradley. Two schools in north Kirklees will also benefit.

Cabinet member for education Clr Cath Harris said: “This seems to be the only capital funding available at the moment.’’
