A TEA dance group has been launched in Marsh.

The local event is aimed at the over 55s and takes place in Gledholt Methodist Church.

It has been organised by Greenhead Ward councillors and Agewell Kirklees.

Local councillor Judith Hughes, pictured inset, said: “This is an important social initiative catering for the interests of older people in the locality.

“This activity is fun and will also help to tackle social isolation among older people.

“I hope that people will take up this new opportunity in the area and come along to the tea dances and enjoy themselves.”

A similar tea dance group was set up for Birkby and takes place at the Birkby Fartown Community Centre.

Councillors came up with the idea with the help of the community groups in the areas.

The North Huddersfield Trust and Holmfirth High School raised £750 to help support these new groups.

The next event in Marsh takes place on Friday, July 20 at the church on Edgerton Grove Road.

Sessions start at 1.30pm and last for two hours.

Admission is £2, payable on the door.
