KEEN bookworms at a valley school dressed up for the occasion when their attention was focused on reading.

Nields Junior, Infant and Nursery School at Slaithwaite celebrated national Children’s Book Week in style.

Pupils and staff entered into the week-long event with gusto and pupils went along to school dressed as their favourite literary character for the book-fest.

They read stories to each other and listened to fascinating tales from staff.

The school, which has just over 200 pupils, has been working throughout the year to improve its library and was also celebrating a £5,000 grant for books from an educational charity.

This cash injection was brought about by the school’s parents, staff and friends’ association.
