North Huddersfield ward councillors have reflected on the changes in Ashbrow this year and told of and exciting new partnership project in 2015.

This year has been especially busy for Ashbrow Ward Councilor Ken Smith as Mayor and Councillors Jean Calvert, Ken Smith and Cath Harris as Cabinet Members.

Clr Calvert said: “Residents will have seen the difficult times the council is going through with massive cuts to its budget from the Government of around 40% and they have to shoulder this burden.”

But as ward councillors all three of them agree 2014 has seen the winding down of the Deighton and Brackenhall Intiative or DBI as it is known to many, with successes including a new community centre, sports facilities and children’s nursery.

Clr Calvert added: “The year has seen the winding up of the Deighton and Brackenhall Initiative which has done some incredible work over the past 17 years.

“In its place we are in the process of setting up a new organisation ‘Ashbrow Partnering Together’ which will continue the work of DBI but it will extend geographically to all parts of the ward.

“We welcome all community organisations to join us in this new venture. We would like to extend their warmest wishes for Christmas and the New Year to all residents of Ashbrow ward and look forward to working with them over the next 12 months.”
