RHYS Benson, a primary aged pupil at Nortonthorpe Hall School in Scissett, wanted to do something of his own for the school's Children in Need Day.

He decided on a 500 metre sponsored swim at the local baths and has raised £135 so far.

The effort impressed headteacher Dennis Shields so much he presented him with a trophy and a pair of goalkeeper’s gloves (pictured) as a reward for his magnificent effort at an assembly in front of the upper school where he also received a warm and well deserved round of applause.
