I READ John Sellers’ letter “Nuclear power? Oh yes please” (Mailbag February 2) with interest.

I am quite aware that it is the radiation from the waste which is the danger at high levels. Like was said, every industry carries a risk, as does everything we do.

We might do well to remember Chernobyl, which could even now be causing problems to many people. The asbestos industry also became a serious threat to many lives.

However, it’s wrong to have the idea that because one person doesn’t have a “bad” reaction to such things, it must be a “good” idea.

It has been reported at times, that some people are harmed, if subjected to too many x-rays etc. Even microwave ovens have been criticised.

I am still of the opinion that nuclear can’t be messed with. It is obvious to us all, the world is now a very different place, with many more added risks.

Mr Sellers writes from much valuable expertise, and experience.

Yes! Nuclear appears to be the only way forward, but the whole scenario needs to be handled with care.

One way to find money

SO the councillors are wanting money for the memorials to honour our dead (Examiner February 2). Well, well, might I suggest the said councillors look no further than the council chambers for funding?

We read recently of one councillor who had only attended three meetings, yet still claimed his expenses.

This is where the money could be found very quickly!

Every time a councillor misses a meeting with no feasible excuse his/her expenses should be deducted accordingly!
