A VILLAGER has expressed his concern at the proposed sell-off of the lease to Shelley Village Hall “on the cheap”.
Kirkheaton resident Mr Neil Richardson contacted the Express & Chronicle after reading that agreement for the sale had been reached in principle .
Mr Richardson said: “As a resident of Kirkheaton, part of the Kirkburton Parish Council area, I was concerned by your recent article stating that the parish council was to sell the 125 year lease to the Shelley Community Association for £10,000 – that is just £80 a year rent.
“Along with the people of the other 10 villagers, every household pays an extra council tax which goes to the Kirkburton Parish Council to support all types of extras in our villages.”
He said there was no such facility in Kirkheaton although many of the villagers wanted a community centre.
