WHILST Gordon Brown’s premiership continues to go off the rails, West Yorkshire’s rail users will have to pay much more to stay on them next year.

Northern Rail’s fares are going up by an average if 5.7% whilst those of us who hook up with GNER’s London service will have to fork out an average 6.6% more for the privilege in 2008.

I thought the big vision was to encourage us to use our cars less but as we face cuts in rural bus services and now big hikes in rail fares, many folk are left with little alternative than to get into their cars and brave our log-jammed roads and motorways. Like most things coming out of Number 10 these days, it beggars belief.
