Almondbury Methodist Church has a solution for anyone wanting a warm welcome with good company and enjoyable food.

Its Open House has now been dishing all this up and more for 30 years.

Coffee is available before the meals which are served from noon.

Everyone is welcome.

Guests are encouraged to come and enjoy a three course meal and a hot drink for £5.25, every fortnight on a Tuesday throughout the year.

Forthcoming dates are: September 23, October 7, October 21, November 4, November 18 and December 2.

The idea began in 1981 when unemployment was high and the church felt it should be doing something to help in the community.

It was a meeting place for anyone interested in providing a ‘cuppa’, coffee, snack or lunch for the unemployed, mums and toddlers, the elderly, the lonely, everyone who wanted to chat.

Since then it has never looked back.

Though without the help of volunteers, both members and non-members of the church, Open House could not carry on.

Today it is attended by approximately 70 people.
