IT’S hard for most right thinking people to understand the mentality of fly-tippers.

The problems highlighted by Fartown resident Linda Storey show just how lazy some people can be.

In an age when there is much emphasis on being green and recycling, we still have people who throw their litter in beauty spots and seem to think nothing of it. They have even dumped chairs, computers and tables on the path off Willow Lane.

And yet this area is just a few minutes from the council’s waste disposal site where people can tip for free.

These are glaring examples of fly-tipping, but don’t we see it every day in our town centres?

People throwing cigarette stubs or chewing gum on the ground along with takeaway cartons dropped anywhere and everywhere people have finished eating.

Many people would never dream of doing this, of course.

But there are still far too many who do and it’s hard to see what will make them change their ways.

Challenge them and you’re likely to face a torrent of abuse.

Perhaps we have to face the worrying fact that we will always be a ‘dirty’ society compared to so many of our European neighbours.
