AFTER a year’s absence the Party in the Park is back.

And the three-day music festival will be the focal point of the town’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations for the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

Kirklees first staged a major outdoor music concert in 2007 when the Queen came to Huddersfield, with two nights of prom and pop concerts at St George’s Square.

So it’s fitting that in her Jubilee year the celebration concerts return once more.

In June the concerts will take place in Greenhead Park, now back to its best after a £5m renovation project.

So far we’ve been promised seventies music, a flag-waving proms concert with Orchestra of Opera North and a line-up of artists from the world of pop, yet to be announced.

A previous survey of music-lovers who attended past events by Kirklees Council found the concerts to be value for money.

In the past they’ve attracted up to 15,000 people and despite being free events, they’ve generated income for local businesses and brought the community together.

Over the weekend of June 8-10, Huddersfield will come alive with music that will surely be of interest to all.

It’s bound to be the party you won’t want to miss.
