PLANS are underway for a series of celebratory events both big and small to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Her Majesty’s 60 years on the throne will prompt street parties and concerts up and down the country.

This week the planning process started in Kirklees and the council is making it easy for people to host their own celebrations.

In Huddersfield there will be open air and town hall concerts, street parties, church services, summer fairs, fireworks, community picnics, fun days and fundraising days.

We’ll even get an extra bank holiday too.

But while there will be high profile events, it’s surely a great excuse for neighbours to get together, host their own street parties and foster the community spirit that was so prevalent 60 years ago.
