A WEEKEND of contrasts across the country with Scotland still in the grip of winter and England in spring.

On top of the Cairngorm Mountains the temperature never got above -5°c 23°f and 14°c 57°f across much of the East Midlands, Cambridgeshire and London. That’s a difference of 19°c or 34°f.
Now the same low pressure that brought all the snow was expected to move across South East England and we would have had a very cold and wintry weekend. It just goes to show how small changes of just several hundred miles can make very big differences on the ground for many millions of people.
It also goes to serve as a warning to those who simply model watch and forecast the weather many days ahead from one or two model runs. Remember last weekend the weather prediction models had indicated over the weekend period heavy snow for all the UK.
For us the low pressure brought a miserable Saturday but a better Sunday as the front cleared away.
