A few days ago I mentioned the possibility of colder weather as we run up to Mother’s Day on April 3, so today I’ve had another sneak look forward in a series of models.

There is still the chance of some wintry weather to end March – ‘in like a lamb, out like a lion’ in contradiction of the ancient proverb. At this stage, though, what we call Global Forecast System ‘ensembles’ forecasts are still pretty much divided on this idea of cold and wintry. The European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) is still not going with cold but instead is predicting a continuation of the settled weather of the last and next few days. The Met Office doesn’t give us data that far out and they are on the fence. So, for the time being we have a little longer to get a clear signal of a possible weather change in the weeks ahead towards more unsettled and colder and stormier conditions. Accu Weather from the USA released their European Spring forecast yesterday. More on this next week.
