America’s Sunshine State is California, and it has spectacularly failed to live up to its name this last week.

The high altitude jet stream which influences so much of our weather has bent south over California, bringing unsettled and stormy weather which is due to continue into the weekend. Untypically, Los Angeles and Hollywood are going to be quite cool at times at 13°C, 55°F. Once this rain moves inland and you go up into the mountains to around 4,000 feet it will readily turn to snow. There could be as much as 2ft of snow in some of the mountain areas. As this snow extends east into the Rockies, places like Denver – the mile high city – will also get some heavy snow. This is causing some local flooding problems. So the Sunshine State is not going to be quite so sunny in the next few days.
