Pavements near to a Lindley hospital have been improved following concerns about the safety of pedestrians.

Lib Dem councillor Cahal Burke was contacted by residents about Howard Road, which is near to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

They complained that the pavements were broken and uneven and could potentially cause someone to suffer a fall.

Following these complaints Clr Burke investigated and held discussions with Kirklees officers.

The case for improving the road was then submitted for inclusion in the Lindley ward’s annual highways programme.

Every ward in Kirklees benefits from the programme, which is paid for by delegated funds and supported by the council’s Street Scene Service.

The service wrote to residents advising them about the work, which was scheduled to be completed in time for Christmas.

They were asked to cut back overhanging vegetation or hedges and park their vehicles away from the road at certain times for access.

Clr Burke said: “Residents living on Howard Road got in touch with me about the pavements early in the year – both directly and through a survey.

“Clearly there was a threat to pedestrian safety and neighbouring wards have already been improved in previous years.

“I am very pleased that the road has received the same investment.”

Residents with any issues are invited to contact Clr Burke or Simon Atkinson at the council on 01924 326142.
