A musical day for the record

MUSIC fans queued from midnight outside Huddersfield record store Vinyl Tap to buy rare records on Saturday.

The John William Street shop was one of 200 independent record shops taking part in Record Store Day, which aim to promote local record stores by selling rare records.

Among the most sought-after cuts were ultra-limited pressings of songs by David Bowie and Pink Floyd.

Meltham-based poet, musician and TV presenter Simon Armitage treated buyers to a DJ set of his favourite tunes while Leeds artist Serious Sam Barrett performed an acoustic gig in the store.
