MAJOR schemes such as house building are important to boost the country’s stuttering economy.

Many of the schemes submitted to councils often have associated work attached to them and this is the case with Persimmon Homes’ plan to build 147 houses on Brighouse Road in Hipperholme. They were granted permission but had to also implement traffic-calming measures and footpath improvements.

The scheme is well underway but the developer keeps wanting to delay the highways improvements.

If this is continually allowed it will increase the public’s frustration with and suspicion of the planning process, especially where controversial schemes are concerned.

If the work is an integral part of the planning permission then the developers must factor it in at the time stipulated by the council.
