THEY plan to celebrate 60 years of Scouting in Newsome.
A full day of events is planned at the Scout Headquarters off Newsome Road South to mark the diamond jubilee.
The first Scout troop was set up in June 1953 but it was not formally registered with the Scout Association until the following year.
Scout group leaders plan to mark the anniversary with a host of events on Saturday, June 22.
Leader Chris Ridsdale said: “We have arranged three different events which we believe will appeal to the whole community.
“We are planning to put on a display of photos and memorabilia from the past 60 years which should be of interest to many in the area”.
The events kick off on June 22 with a coffee morning from 10am - noon.
In the afternoon there is a children’s party for youngsters up to the age of 12, from 2pm to 4pm. It is aimed at current members of the Group, which has about 60 young people and children in the Beavers, Cub Scouts, Scouts and Explorers.
The day’s celebrations end with a family dance and supper from 7.30pm in the evening, with tickets priced at £5 and £3.
