DID you finish your schooling at Mount Pleasant Secondary Modern School, Lockwood, in summer 1958? A group of former classmates from that year are still looking for people who did and now will becoming senior citizens!

After 50 years of work and endeavour, we are hoping to organise an evening’s get-together to hopefully re-live a lot of happy memories, and rekindle many old friendships.

We would welcome anyone who was connected with the school in that year, in whatever capacity, and we would certainly welcome everyone to a wonderful evening together.

If you would like to be a part of these celebrations, please get in touch by ringing Ralph Hirst on 01484 643634, or, Joan Kaye on 01484 651105 and we will give you what information we can. Please watch the Mailbag in this newspaper for an announcement of the event when we will have final details.

Past glories

INTERESTING to note in your Now and Then pictures that the roads in Scape were much better in 1953 than they are today. Big is not beautiful, ie Kirklees MC v Slaithwaite UDC.

In the old days UCDs did not have troughs, councillors were not paid.

Service without a smile

VISITING Huddersfield on Saturday last, I thought I would go into Primark, purchased some goods downstairs, very busy there, went upstairs, fairly quiet, no stressed staff, or so it seemed.

I went to pay for items purchased, sales assistant took my goods, never said how much I owed, never smiled, said please or thank you, stuffed receipt in bag, passed it to me, not a word was said by her. I said thank you when I gave her my money and took my goods.

What is wrong with these shop assistants? It wasn’t even busy?! I felt like saying “cheer up”. She won’t be getting ‘100% mystery shopper award’ will she?

I work as a customer assistant myself so I know how to treat customers, if we treat people as she did we would be out of a job!
