THERE are approximately 150,060 miles of public rights of way for walkers in England and Wales, 4,470 of which are byways open to all traffic.

That’s 1.85%. It would take a lifetime to walk all the paths not open to traffic, so why do some walkers want them all?

If you don’t want to meet a motor vehicle on your walk don’t walk the 1.85 %.
