LONG-SUFFERING people of Brighouse have had to endure without a swimming pool for nearly two years now.

A sorry saga linked to a nearby development site has seen the town without public baths since July, 2006.

It has proved very frustrating for all.

Although the new pool which is now proposed will take up part of a park it is hard to see what major objection there could be to the scheme.

A welcome aspect is that the £2.5m project will not add to the council tax bill. The cash is coming from Calderdale Council’s share of the proceeds from the sale of Leeds-Bradford Airport.

Brighouse has been waiting a long time for this. Let’s hope it goes with a splash.
