A former pub in the centre of Kirkburton is to get a new – and temporary – lease of life.

The Royal, which closed several weeks ago, will be used as a “Pop Up” art studio for the next two weeks.

Organiser Simon Turner said: “Tomorrow we are opening a pop up art gallery and shop in the former Royal Hotel.

“The building is on the market and is a real focal point at the heart of the village.

“The idea of the “Pop Up Shop” is to take over the tenancy of a disused property for two weeks in order to generate some interest in the building and to also generate interest in something local.

“We will be opening the Royal as a gallery which will give local artists a chance to showcase their work free of charge and entry to the gallery is also free of charge”.

The gallery will open up tomorrow at 11am.
