SHELLEY College has decided to drop a controversial new entry scheme after a groundswell of opposition from the local community.

Many families in the area feared the College’s planned changes to its admission policies would damage two local middle schools. And parents mobilised support and lobbied their local MP to demonstrate the strength of feeling which ran through this local community.

Now the proposals which drew such opposition have been withdrawn, it is to be hoped that all involved will reflect on how best to work together on a way forward for the best possible future for children in the area.

Let’s hope that the powerful community spirit which seems to have been engendered by this whole episode can help rebuild a positive environment for all the schools in the area.
