KAFFEE und kuchen (coffee and cakes) were the order of the day at Salendine Nook High School’s introductory day for primary schools.

The high school invited around 40 pupils from four feeder schools – Reinwood, Spring Grove, Moorlands and Lindley – to join them for a taster languages day.

In the German bistro, the youngsters learned about the German cuisine and then had to order their food and drink in German.

They were waited on by Year 9 pupils from Salendine Nook, who also taught the other two language lessons.

There was a Spanish lesson during which the primary school pupils made their own posters in Spanish, and in French they learned numbers, songs and games.

Languages teacher Claire Barker said: “It was a lovely day, a real success enjoyed by both our school and the primary school children.

“Our Year 9s enjoyed being in charge and gave up their free time to prepare and deliver lessons, which will help with their organisational and leadership skills.”
