AFTER the disappointment of having to cancel Ravensknowle Children’s Gala last year because of the torrential rain, organisers are looking forward to this year’s which will take place on Sunday, June 30.

The procession starts at 1pm and this year’s gala queen will be 11-year-old Olivia Botchway-Clarke who lives in Dalton.

This year’s event will be the 86th gala and hundreds of people are expected to attend in Ravensknowle Park.

There is a full programme of events ranging from a fancy dress competition with prize giving by Magic Mike, a talent show, cheerleaders and bicycle display teams.

Gala Committee chairman, Keith Saul, said he was grateful for all the understanding and support that had been shown by suppliers, stallholders and sponsors following the cancellation of last year’s event – the first time it had to be cancelled.

He said: “Without this help the gala would have faced crippling financial losses and we may not have been able to carry on”.
