GIANT Rufus must look a sight paddling through the water.

For the Newfoundland dog is a water rescue dog, taking rescue rings to people stuck in the water. Not only that, but Rufus can pull boats through the water to get people to safety.

The 10 stone dog lives in Holmfirth with his owner Rebecca Hodgson, who takes him training and is hoping he can go to the rescue of people who get into difficulty in the water.

Rufus is not only a much-loved family pet, he’s proof, were it ever needed, of the devotion and dependability of animals, especially dogs.

Dogs can give blind people and those with hearing difficulties their independence. Now we hear of Rufus, a gentle giant of a dog, who is learning to do the job that he is built for. Well done to Rebecca for teaching him the skills that could save a life.
