MANY of us enjoy the stunning, rugged beauty of the Pennine moors around Huddersfield.

But all too often, those moors can become a dangerous place and people are left needing help.

For one elderly walker, who suffered serious leg injuries in a fall at the weekend, that help came in the form of volunteers from the Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team.

They left their Saturday football, shopping and household tasks to help the ambulance service rescue the stricken walker in a ravine.

We take their work for granted yet they deserve our thanks and our help.

The team is currently based at Marsden Fire Station, to be close to the moors, but will lose their home when the station closes as part of cutbacks.

The rescue service relies entirely on public donations to continue its work, and it would be a crying shame if their endeavours were limited purely on a financial basis.

Help them out now and you may be able to call on their help, should you need it, in the future.
