PEOPLE Power is again coming to the fore in a part of Huddersfield.

Residents in Longwood thought they had done enough almost a decade ago to stop a patch of land being developed.

But now they are girding their loins for another battle against a would-be developer.

They are determined that fields off Prospect Road should stay as they are and not be swallowed up by an estate of 13 houses.

Local families have made their feelings known to Kirklees Council and a key argument is that the land is adjacent to a children’s play area, with obvious safety concerns.

But they also argue that given the current state of planning priorities for Kirklees Council, the issue should never have arisen.

The council is consulting once again about a planning blueprint for the future and surely should wait until that is determined before ruling on future land use.
